Work packages in the Design Study
The work foreseen for the design study has been organised in nine different work packages. Each work package has its own coordinator and executive committee, responsible for the progress of the work in the package. At regular meetings between work package coordinators and at full consortium meetings the project is discussed and monitored as a whole.- WP1 - Management of the Design Study
Coordinator: Uli Katz, University of Erlangen, Germany.
Objective: management of the Design Study as a whole - WP2 - Physics analysis and simulation
Coordinator: Paschal Coyle, CPPM, Marseille, France
Objectives: Assesment and optimisation of the different detector options for the neutrino telescope w.r.t the physics sensitivity and total cost for the neutrino telescope. - WP3 - System and product engineering
Coordinator: Jean Pierre Schueller, CEA, Saclay, France
Objective: Design of the optical modules and calibration modules for the neutrino telescope. - WP4 - Information technology
Coordinator: Maarten de Jong, Nikhef, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Objectives: Design of the readout and data acquisition system and the design of the on-shore data processing system. - WP5 - Shore and deep-sea infrastructure
Coordinator: Antonio Capone, INFN, Roma, Italy
Objectives: Evaluation of candidate sites for KM3NeT and design of deployment and recovery procedures, a deep-sea power and data network and the on-shore infrastructure. - WP6 - Sea surface infrastructure
Coordinator: Leo Resvanis, Nestor Institute, Pylos, Greece
Objectives: Improvement of the Delta-Berenike platform as a potential deployment platform for KM3NeT. - WP7 - Risk assessment and quality assurance
Coordinator: Calogero Sollima, INFN/University of Pisa, Italy
Objectives: Design of procedures for quality assurance and risk assessment for the construction and operation of the KM3NeT infrastructure. - WP8 - Resource exploration
Coordinator: Ion Siotis, NCSR Demokritos, Athens, Greece
Objectives: Exploration of resources that could be mobilised for the construction of the KM3NeT infrastructure - WP9 - Associated sciences
Coordinator: Monty Priede, University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom
Objectives: Definition of the communication model between the neutrino telescope and the marine science communities and the design of the associated sciences nodes in the infrastructure.
